Cameras will begin rolling this month on Phil Connell’s LGBTQ family drama Jump, Darling.
The feature-length project, which was a selection at the first annual Inside Out LGBTQ Finance Forum in 2017, is produced by Minnesota-based prodco Big Island Productions. Katie Corbridge is producing the film, with Karen Harnisch (Sleeping Giant, White Lie) serving as executive producer.
Level Film is handling Canadian distribution on the project, which was supported by Telefilm’s Talent to Watch Program. Filming will take place in Toronto and Prince Edward County. Also starring in the film is Linda Kash, Jayne Eastwood, Marc Caven, Tynomi Banks, Miss Fiercelicious and Faye Slift.
The project stars U.S. actor Cloris Leachman and newcomer Thomas Duplessie, with the latter playing a rookie drag queen torn between his life as a queer artist and the comfortable life he has come to know. Meanwhile, Oscar and Emmy-winning actor and comedian Leachman plays his grandmother Margaret, who is in steep decline but determined to avoid the local nursing home.
Writer/director Connell’s other credits include the short films Survival Guide (2014) and Kissing Drew (2013).
