CBC has inked a deal with France’s Banijay Rights for two docuseries, The Operatives (10 x 60 minutes) and Saving Lives at Sea (12 x 60 minutes, pictured).

Announced at MIPTV, the agreement sees the pubcaster acquire the pay TV and VOD rights to both titles for the documentary Channel. The deal does not include The Operatives and Saving Lives at Sea‘s TVOD rights.

The Operatives from AMO Media follows former military personnel who travel the world trying to expose poachers and environmental criminals. The docuseries was first broadcast in the U.S. on Pivot TV and has been sold to territories like New Zealand, Brazil, Portugal and Spain, the Middle East, North Africa, Poland and more.

Meanwhile, Saving Lives at Sea, produced by the U.K.’s Blast! Films for BBC Two, tracks the crews and lifeguards behind the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, an unpaid volunteer program. Denmark’s TV2, Ireland’s RTE, S+ Channel in Portugal and Choice Channel in New Zealand have all previously picked up the series.

Prior to these two deals, CBC’s documentary Channel picked up season one and two of The Detectives. Produced by Minnow Films for BBC Two, the seven-episode, one-hour factual series follows U.K. detectives as they try to solve complex cases.

This agreement follows the news that Cineflix has partnered with Talesmith and Wild Wolf Media for nature documentary special Takaya: Lone Wolf (working title). Also introduced at MIPTV,  the one-hour Canada/U.K. copro follows an isolated wolf’s relationship with a photographer. The special is currently in production for CBC, BBC4 and ARTE.
