Shawn Doyle and Kristen Thomson took home this year’s ACTRA Awards, along with Gordon Pinsent, who snagged the Award of Excellence for his long list of achievements.
Doyle won the male outstanding performance award for his work in the CTV drama series The Eleventh Hour.
Although this is Doyle’s first award, he’s received Gemini nominations for best supporting actor for his work on The City and for best actor in A Killing Spring. His other credits include TV series Blue Murder and Due South, and films such as The Majestic, Don’t Say a Word and The Long Kiss Goodnight.
Thomson won the female outstanding performance award for her role in I Shout Love. The project was directed by Sarah Polley, and recently won the 2003 Genie Award for best short film.
Thomson has also won Dora Awards as a playwright and as an actor for her work in I, Claudia. Her film credits include The Republic of Love, The Matthew Shepard Story and The Law of Enclosures.
The Award of Excellence, presented by Paul Gross, went to Pinsent for his work as an actor, playwright, author and director in film, theatre, television and radio.
Pinsent has starred in television series including A Gift to Last, which he wrote, Due South and Power Play. Pinsent was also in The Shipping News, starring Kevin Spacey and Julianne Moore.
Presented by ACTRA Toronto Performers, the awards gala was held at the Royal Ontario Museum Feb. 27 as part of the guild’s 60th anniversary celebrations.
