Hot Docs, the biggest documentary film festival in North America, will be hosting its 10th anniversary April 25 to May 4 throughout Toronto’s trendy Little Italy and Annex neighborhoods.
The festival will feature over 100 premieres of documentaries from around the world, festival organizers announced earlier this month.
As a thank-you to Toronto for its continued support, Hot Docs will present free screenings on opening and closing nights, along with free late-night screenings throughout the festival. Hot Docs will also feature repeat screenings of seven of the most popular films.
‘What Hot Docs is helping to create, is a growing public appetite for documentaries on the big screen,’ says executive director Chris McDonald, pointing to a season of sold-out screenings of Hot Docs spin-off, Doc Soup.
All Hot Docs films are set to screen at the Royal Cinema, Bloor Cinema, Innis Town Hall and the ROM Theatre.
Senior international programmer Marc Glassman is eager to show off the Made in Taiwan series, noting, ‘Some of the greatest art-house films of the past decade have been produced in Taiwan.’
The International Showcase will also feature films from 29 countries, including Argentina, Denmark, France, Germany, Israel and the U.S.
A spotlight on the U.K. will feature 13 provocative films and the Outstanding Achievement Retrospective, a tribute to British filmmaker Nick Broomfield, will screen four of Broomfield’s most popular works.
