U.S. arts channel Ovation TV has picked up the season-two broadcast rights to Canada/France coproduction Versailles.

Produced by French prodcos Capa Drama and Zodiak Fiction and Montreal’s Incendo, the season-one premiere aired on Ovation on Oct. 1, 2016, becoming the most-watched episode in the network’s history, according to the network. Season two (10 x 60 minutes) will begin airing on the channel in fall 2017, though no specific air date has been confirmed.

Banijay Rights, the international distribution arm of Banijay Group, holds the global distribution rights to the series.

The $40-million first season of the series was previously acquired by Netflix in the U.S., as well as securing sales to RTP1 (Portugal), BBC2 (U.K.), Movistar (Spain) RUV (Iceland), Globosat Brazil and DIRECTV (Latin America). In Canada, the series airs on Bell Media’s The Movie Network and Super Écran.

Executive producers on the series are Simon Mirren (Without a Trace), David Wolstencroft (Spooks), Claude Chelli (Braquo), Jean Bureau (Crusoe), Anne Thomopoulos (The Tudors) and director Jalil Lespert (Yves Saint Laurent).

Versailles stars George Blagden (Vikings), Alexander Vlahos (Merlin) and Anna Brewster (Star Wars: The Force Awakens), is directed by Thomas Vincent (The Tunnel), Mike Barker (Broadchurch) and Louis Choquette (Rumours).
