The Toronto-based media company and U.S.-based Smithsonian Networks have partnered to launch Blue Skye Entertainment, a joint venture focused on developing and distributing a library of ultra HD (4K) natural history and wildlife content.

The new company, Blue Skye Entertainment, will be based in London, U.K., and will target SVOD and linear television services with Love Nature and Smithsonian Earth-branded content.

Leading the new venture will be Jo Parkinson, who has been appointed to the managing director role. She was most recently the VP and GM at World Wrestling Entertainment’s network office, where she was responsible for growing the WWE Network channel across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Prior to that, she had also held positions at BskyB, Time Warner, Viacom and Liberty Global.

Blue Ant Media holds the licence for the Smithsonian Channel in Canada. This latest deal comes after Blue Ant announced it would make its Love Nature channel available for international distribution on linear and SVOD platforms.
