Canal Vie orders up family cooking format

Media Ranch's Life in the Kitchen (working title) is based on a U.K. format.

Bell Media’s French-language lifestyle channel Canal Vie has greenlit Life in the Kitchen (working title), a French-language docu-series produced by Montreal’s Media Ranch.

The 4 x 60-minute series is an adaptation of a format created by L.A. and London-based Studio Lambert, and marks its first adaption outside the U.K.

Life in the Kitchen was originally produced as a 3 x 60-minute series for BBC2.

The Media Ranch version of the series takes a fly-on-the-wall approach to documenting how six different families prepare and share breakfast and dinners in their respective homes. The series will be shot in locations throughout Quebec. Media Ranch is also currently in early-stage negotiations to produce an English-language version of the series, Sophie Ferron, president and CEO at Media Ranch told Playback Daily.

Media Ranch acquired the series after meeting with distributor All3 Media International at MIPCOM in 2014, Ferron said. Life in the Kitchen will be executive-produced by Ferron and line produced by Debra Kouri. Paul Carriere will write and direct the series, which is currently slated to bow on Canal Vie in fall 2016.
