Deals: Picture Box, Portfolio, Muse, Big Bad Boo

You Gotta Eat Here! (pictured) heads to Europe and Asia, and more deals of the week.

Sinking Ship Entertainment’s Annedroids has been picked up by Walt Disney Company for distribution in Central and Eastern Europe, South and Sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East, and by YLE in Finland. The 52 x 30-minute series is distributed internationally by Vancouver and Toronto-based Picture Box Entertainment. The CGI/live action hybrid series recently won the Grand Prize for Best Production at Canada’s Youth Media Alliance awards.

Portfolio Entertainment

Toronto-based production and distribution company Portfolio Entertainment has sold titles from its factual slate into a number of European and Asian territories. Portfolio licensed all four seasons of You Gotta Eat Here! to GA&A for Discovery Italy. The full culinary series from Lone Eagle Entertainment was also acquired by A+E Networks Asia for FYI. The series fourth season was also picked up by UKTV’s Good Food channel. Food Network Canada recently ordered a fifth season of the travelling food show. Portfolio also sold its documentary feature For the Love of Dog (1 x 60-minutes) to Yes in Israel.

Muse Distribution
Muse International has closed a number of global sales for its Ben Kingsley-starring miniseries Tut. Muse has inked all-rights deals with Hulu for Japan and with Saran Media Group for Turkey, in addition to linear television deals with U.K.’s Channel Five, SIC in Portugal, Discovery in Italy and New Zealand’s SKY. The 3 x 120-minute miniseries is scheduled to air on Spike TV in the U.S. from July 19 to 21. 

Lionsgate
Comic-Con International and Lionsgate have announced the first original series that will appear on its new joint platform, the Comic-Con International SVOD service. The as-yet-unnamed reality fashion series centres on fashion co Her Universe and follows a group of contestants as they devise concepts and designs to feature at next year’s Her Universe Fashion Show. The series will be produced by Her Universe, Blondie Girl Productions and Lionsgate, and exec produced by Ashley Eckstein (Star Wars: The Clone WarsStar Wars Rebels), Ashley Tisdale (Clipped, Young and Hungry) and Jennifer Tisdale (Inner Circle).

Big Bad Boo Studios
Lili & Lola, an original mini-series from Big Bad Boo Studios, premiered this week on children’s streaming service Oznoz. The 5 x 7-minute show is produced by Big Bad Boo’s Shabnam Rezaei and Aly Jetha and charts the escapades of two Iranian sisters Lili and Lola. Rezaei and Jetha are also the owners and co-founders of the Oznoz streaming platform.  Aside from Oznoz, the miniseries is also set to air on ICI Television Montreal, Shaw Multicultural Channel and TenTV Toronto. Big Bad Boo has offices in Vancouver, L.A. and New York.

Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood and Odd Squad
New seasons of Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood and Odd Squad have been picked up by PBS Kids. The U.S. pubcaster has greenlit 20 new episodes of Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, a copro from The Fred Rogers Company (TFRC), 9 Story Media Group and Out of the Blue. Odd Squad, a coproduction from TFRC and Sinking Ship Entertainment, received a 25-episode season two order from PBC Kids. TVO also picked up the second season of Odd Squad, with CBC has not yet made a decision regarding the new season of Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood. Read more about the deal here.
