Sphere strikes deal with Fremantle for Crave festive dating format

The Advent Calendar debuted on the Bell Media streamer on Monday.

Global producer-distributor Fremantle has acquired the format rights to the new festive-themed dating competition The Advent Calendar (Le calendrier de l’avent) from Montreal-headquartered Sphere Media, as the series makes its domestic debut on Crave.

The French-language series dropped its first episode on the Bell Media streamer on Monday (Dec. 1) and will air daily episodes until Dec. 24, in addition to longer primetime episodes.

Hosted by comedian and TV personality Katherine Levac, the format gives one single woman 24 shots at love, as she successively opens a new door on a life-size advent calendar every day until Christmas to unveil another potential suitor. On the final day, only one of the beaus will be chosen by the competitor to accompany them to their family’s Christmas dinner.

This is the second format deal struck by Sphere Media and Fremantle this year, with the latter having acquired the rights to the Crave psychological reality competition House of Secrets in February.

The Advent Calendar is directed by Guillaume St-Arnaud and David Émond-Ferrat, and produced by Marie-Pier Gaudreault and Stéphanie DaSilva. Gaudreault is also an executive producer on the series, along with Renaud Chassé and Sphere Media president Bruno Dubé.
