Principal photography has wrapped on Hypernormalized, a horror thriller from director Justin McConnell (Lifechanger).
The privately financed feature was shot across Toronto, Los Angeles, Tokyo and Málaga, Spain. Production took place from June to November, with all international shoots occurring in October.
Local crews were utilized for the international shoots, which were led by unit directors Tricia Lee (L.A.), Adam Mason (Spain) and Darryl Shaw (Tokyo). McConnell helmed the Toronto shoot, and remotely supervised the location shoots.
The film centres on a man whose sanity begins to slip as he suffers from intense nightmares and what seem to be visitations from an otherworldly entity, and who begins to suspect that his online friend group may be experiencing the same phenomena.
The cast includes Canadians Michelle D’Alessandro Hatt (Lifechanger), Adam Buller (Lifechanger), Adrian Patterson and McConnell himself, alongside U.S. actors Robert LaSardo (Nip/Tuck), Caryn Richman (The Puppetman), Duane Whitaker (Pulp Fiction) and Matt Farley (Local Legends), Japanese actor Hiroshi Watanabe (Letters from Iwo Jima) and Spanish actor Victor Miró (7:11 Cuarzo).
The film is produced by McConnell’s Unstable Ground shingle in association with Federgreen Entertainment. McConnell serves as producer, with Avi Federgreen (Deathstalker) as executive producer. Cast members Hatt and LaSardo are associate producers on the project, along with Dave McGrath.
