The 2SLGBTQIA+ media organization Pink Triangle Press (PTP) hosted its second annual Pink Awards on Thursday (Nov. 6) in Toronto at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel.
The awards see five prominent members of the queer community selected as champions for organizations, referred to as changemakers, supporting various 2SLGBTQIA+ causes in Canada. Each changemaker is provided $5,000, in addition to funds raised through ticket sales and a silent auction.
Canadian screen industry members Bilal Baig (Sort Of) and Devery Jacobs (Reservation Dogs) were among the 2025 champions, representing the theatre company Paprika Festival and the Native Youth Sexual Health Network, respectively.
The other champions were British-Canadian singer-songwriter Carole Pope, representing the Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research; Canadian civil rights attorney and activist Douglas Elliott with the Wabanaki Two-Spirit Alliance; and U.S. producer Harper Steele with youth counselling service Friends of Ruby.
English crooner Sam Smith presented the Legacy Award to famed Canadian jazz performer Beverly Glenn-Copeland, who was in attendance with his wife Elizabeth Copeland. The couple also performed their song “Harbour (Song for Elizabeth).”
Additional performers during the evening were the Forte Gay Men’s Chorus, The Launch winner T. Thomason and pop-country band Shania Twink, as well as a special appearance by Pope.
