Natalia Leite boards Emily St. John Mandel feature adaptation

The adaptation of Mandel's Last Night in Montreal will be produced by Vancouver-based Simon Faber through his Taiga Pictures banner.

Brazilian director Natalia Leite (The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox) has signed on to direct Last Night in Montreal, an adaptation of Canadian author Emily St. John Mandel’s 2009 novel of the same name.

The film is currently in development and will be produced by Vancouver’s Simon Faber through his Taiga Pictures banner. The adaptation is penned by Mandel and Semi Chellas (Mad Men), who also serve as executive producers.

Last Night in Montreal follows a man whose girlfriend disappears on the night he planned to propose. Her trail leads to Montreal, where he uncovers her past and finds himself entangled in a dangerous mystery.

Mandel’s other works include The Glass Hotel and Station Eleven, the latter of which was adapted into a miniseries for Hulu.

“With Natalia’s distinct vision and Emily and Semi’s extraordinary script, I am so excited about the team we are continuing to assemble around the adaptation of this very special piece of material,” said Faber in a statement.
