Hot Sheet: Peacemaker tops Canadian digital original demand

Three series, including Netflix’s Wayward, made their Hot Sheet debuts in the first week of October.

HBO Max’s Peacemaker (pictured) led digital originals in demand in the first week of October as the series neared its season two finale.

The comic book-based series — streaming on Crave in Canada — was 42.8 times more in demand than the average series in Canada during the week of Sept. 29 to Oct. 5, according to Parrot Analytics, coming in at No. 4 overall. Demand for the show increased by more than six points from the previous week, when it was No. 2 digitally and No. 10 overall. The seventh and second-last episode of its second season debuted on Oct. 2.

NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon was No. 1 in overall demand. The late-night talk show held an average of 46.7, about two points higher than last week.

NBC’s Saturday Night Live landed at No. 2 overall with an average of 46.5 following the premiere of its 51st season. Airing on Oct. 4, the first episode of the sketch comedy series’ latest season was hosted by Bad Bunny, with Doja Cat as the musical guest. The episode also represented the debut of Barrie, Ont.’s Veronika Slowikowska as a cast member.

Netflix’s Alice in Borderland, reaching No. 7 on the digital originals chart with a demand average of 24.7, was one of three series that made its debut on the list this week. The Japanese-language series, based on a manga of the same name, premiered its third season on Sept. 25.

Peacock’s Love Island Games — airing on Crave and CTV — debuted on the Hot Sheet at No. 9, with an average of 23.8. The second season of the reality dating competition spin-off premiered on Sept. 16.

Netflix’s Wayward rounded out the debuting series, landing at No. 10 with an average of 23. The Mae Martin-created thriller has been the global No. 1 English-language series on the streamer for two weeks since its release on Sept. 25.

Parrot Analytics calculates its Top 10 lists using Demand Expressions, which are shown by using a metric that demonstrates how much more in-demand the top series are than the average TV show (linear, pay TV, SVOD and AVOD) in Canada. For example, a difference of 1x represents the market average and 10x means a series is 10 times more in demand than the average TV show in this market. Demand is defined as the total audience demand being expressed for a title within a market. Audience demand reflects the desire, engagement and viewership, weighted by importance; thus, a stream or download is a higher expression of demand than a “like” or comment.
