New Metric Media invests in L.A. prodco Good Walk Entertainment

The Letterkenny prodco and the startup founded by former Comedy Central execs Kent Alterman and Sarah Babineau will partner on a range of cross-platform comedy projects.

Toronto-headquartered New Metric Media (Letterkenny, Shoresy) has made a strategic investment in Good Walk Entertainment, the L.A.-based prodco founded by former Comedy Central executives Kent Alterman and Sarah Babineau.

Under the terms of the deal, New Metric’s investment in Good Walk will form the basis of a non-exclusive partnership that will see the companies team to produce and distribute comedy content with global appeal across platforms, including film, TV, digital video and podcasts. The amount of the investment was not disclosed at press time.

Activities covered by the agreement include coproductions, service productions, distribution, packaging and financing, as well as ancillary extensions of jointly-developed IP such as live events, ecommerce, gaming and product licensing.

New Metric and Good Walk are currently prepping a number of projects to take out to domestic and international buyers. These include a new series created by Canadian comedian Steph Tolev (Filth Queen, Tires) and writer and actress Allison Hogg (Baroness Von Sketch Show), in which Tolev will also star.

Good Walk’s Alterman (pictured left) and Babineau (centre) previously worked together at Comedy Central, where they served as president and head of content and creative enterprises, respectively. During their tenure at the Paramount-owned network they oversaw such successful shows as Inside Amy Schumer, Key & Peele, Nathan for You, Broad City and Drunk History.

The duo launched Good Walk in 2022 and have since set up a number of film and TV projects with major U.S. platforms and studios. Previously announced projects include Off Color, a semi-autobiographical comedy series from creator and star Owen Thiele (Theater Camp) that is being developed at Prime Video; and Forklift, a new NBC workplace sitcom starring and co-written by comedian Chris Estrada (Hulu’s This Fool).

Upcoming projects from New Metric, meanwhile, include the 6 x 30-minute limited series Hate the Player: The Ben Johnson Story for GameTV and Paramount+ in Canada, and the Crave original series I Kill the Bear, the latest project from Letterkenny and Shoresy creator and star Jared Keeso.

The full-spectrum collaboration with Good Walk continues New Metric’s cross-platform expansion strategy, which included the launch of a new podcast and standup comedy division earlier this year.

“Kent and Sarah are behind some of the most seminal and culture-defining comedic voices of this generation that have certainly inspired our own sensibilities,” said New Metric founder and CEO Mark Montefiore (pictured right) in a statement.

New Metric is represented by CAA, Dentons LLP & Miller Thomson LLP. Good Walk is represented by UTA, Johnson, Shapiro, Slewett, Kole and Stubbs Alderton & Markiles.
