Possibles Média developing David Suzuki biopic

The film will depict key events in Suzuki’s life on his way to becoming one of Canada’s foremost environmental activists.

Montreal’s Possibles Média is in development on a biopic about renowned broadcaster and environmental activist David Suzuki with support from La Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC) and Telefilm Canada.

The film, which Suzuki himself is involved in, will be produced by Serge Noël (It Must Be Heaven) and written by Colombia-born, Montreal-based screenwriter Maria Camila Arias (Birds of Passage). It explores the former The Nature of Things host’s life, depicting the key events that led him to become one of Canada’s foremost environmental activists.

Currently under the working title Among the Uprising Trees, the biopic has received development funding from SODEC and Telefilm. Christian Simoneau, Hugo Alarie-Blondin and Stéphane Laporte are attached as executive producers.

“David Suzuki’s legacy is already immense, and we are seeking a director whose vision can fully capture his stature in the face of the climate emergency,” said Noël in a statement.

“What I hope this film will leave behind is something with meaning that speaks to many generations: from those who will recognize themselves in its historical moments, to younger generations searching for answers about the future of humanity on this planet,” added Arias.
