Discreet leads nominees for T.O. Webfest awards

The ICI Tou.tv short-form series picked up 10 nominations overall, including Best Series and Best Drama.

ICI Tou.tv’s French-language short-form series Discreet (Discrètes) leads the nominees for the 2025 T.O. Webfest Awards.

The awards are part of the annual T.O. Webfest festival, which recognizes excellence in digital short-form storytelling. They will be announced at a ceremony on Sept. 17.

Discreet (pictured) is written and directed by Sophia Belahmer and Juliette Gosselin, and tells the story of two office cleaners who seek revenge after one of them is attacked. The 10 x 15-minute series is produced by Montreal’s Avanti-Toast in collaboration with Amalga Créations Médias.

The series picked up 10 overall nominations, including the grand prize for Best Series, Best French-Canadian Series and Best Drama Series. It also picked up nods for ensemble cast, original score (Pierre-Philippe Côté), visual effects (Martin Tremblay), sound design (Billy Carriere and Gaël Poisson Lemay) and supporting actor (Olivier Gervais-Courchesne and Rose Adam).

The KOTV-produced series Paper Cuts (Fleur de peau) picked up nine nominations overall. The 8 x 15-minute ICI Tou.tv series is created by Erika Mathieu and directed by Belahmer, and follows a single woman’s quest for meaning when her best friend and roommate moves out to live with his girlfriend.

Paper Cuts is up for Best Series, Best French-Canadian Series, Best Comedy Series, Best Directing for Belahmer and Best Lead Actor for Valérie Tellos. The series also has nominations for cinematography (Louka Boutin), original score (Côté), costume design (Guillaume Laflamme) and hair and makeup (Camille Sabbagh-Bourret, Anais Côté and Jeanne-Swan Michel).

Two other series picked up eight nominations each: Télé-Québec’s Denis Danger (Trio Orange), about a girl who learns she’s the reincarnation of a legendary stunt performer; and the post-apocalyptic thriller So Dark the Sky (North Country Cinema). Both titles are up for Best Series.

Denis Danger is also nominated for Best French-Canadian Series, Best Comedy Series, Best Directing for Vincent Bolduc and Best Supporting Actor for Salma Serraji. Other nominations are in production design (Célia Lucas), visual effects (Etienne Bergeron) and sound design (Steve Cordeau, Jayson Côté-Brassard and Stephany Tremblay).

So Dark the Sky is nominated for Best Sci-Fi/Horror/Thriller/Fantasy Series and Best Lead Actor for Karen Gomez, as well as nods for original score (Eoin Russell), production design (Patrick Du Wors), sound design (Chris Ferguson, Tyler Rambie, Matt Coffey, Brent Planiden, Vienna Kunnas and Braun Farnon), hair and makeup (Katt Panic) and editing (Kyle Thomas).

Rounding out the nominees for Best Series are Maestro (Sport) from writer-director Stéphane Lafleur, and the Pixcom-produced Noovo series Ils sont parmi nous (They Are Among Us).
