The Canada Media Fund (CMF) has selected 19 projects for production funding as part of the 2025-26 Program for Black and Racialized Communities (PBRC).
This edition of the PBRC will provide $10.3 million across 12 English-language and seven French-language series and films. The English-language projects will receive a total allocation of $6.6 million, with $3.7 million distributed among the French-language projects. The program provides production funding to prodcos owned and controlled by Black and racialized individuals.
Nine of the selected projects are being produced by Ontario-based companies, seven are from Quebec, two are from British Columbia and one is from Nova Scotia.
In terms of genre, seven projects are dramas, six are documentaries and six are children and youth productions. Fourteen of the projects are TV series, while four are fiction features and one is a feature documentary.
Among the selected projects is the three-part docuseries Seeking Saltwater City from Burnaby, B.C.-based Black Rhino Creative, which was confirmed earlier this year as the first greenlight for B.C. pubcaster Knowledge Network’s new Stories (Un)told commissioning stream. Also receiving funding is the forthcoming project from writer-director Clement Virgo, Half-Blood Blues, an adaptation of the jazz-themed novel by Esi Edugyan.
