Principal photography on writer-director Ryan Glover’s supernatural horror Split Rock has begun in the Saskatchewan badlands.
The film is produced by Brian Robertson of Toronto-based Low End, Jefferson Moneo of Canadian and Mexican prodco Prowler Pictures and Krista Dzialoszynski of Toronto’s Observer Effect Productions. It began shooting on Monday (July 28) and is scheduled to wrap production on Aug. 23.
Split Rock accompanies a group of geologists who unearth an ancient force of destruction when investigating an anomaly deep underground.
The cast features Canadian actors Clark Backo (Venom: The Last Dance), Drew Ray Tanner (Riverdale) and Graham Verchere (Summer of 84) alongside Olivia Luccardi (It Follows).
Split Rock is supported by Telefilm Canada and Creative Saskatchewan. Its U.S. distribution and international sales rights, excluding Canada, are currently being negotiated, according to a news release. Canadian rights were still available at press time. Low End is representing the film for sales negotiations.
The film marks Glover’s second feature as writer-director following his 2020 Shudder original horror The Strings (Observer Effect).
“Ryan’s visual style paired with our extraordinary cast, practical SPFX and stunning locations will have audiences in for a truly terrifying experience,” said Dzialoszynski in a statement.
