Hot Sheet: Love Island USA maintains demand lead for finale

The original U.K. format moved up to No. 2 on the overall demand chart in mid-July.

Peacock’s Love Island USA (pictured) remained the most in-demand digital original and overall series in Canada through to its season seven finale on July 13.

The dating competition series, which airs on Crave and CTV in Canada, was 72.9 times more in demand than the average TV show in Canada during the week of July 7 to 13, according to Parrot Analytics. That represents a drop of around 10 points compared to the previous week when it held an average of 82.3.

ITV2’s original U.K. format, available through Hayu and CTV in Canada, moved up to the No. 2 spot on the overall series chart, due to a slight increase in demand from last week.

Netflix’s Squid Game followed Love Island USA as the No. 2 digital original and No. 3 on the overall demand chart. The Korean-language thriller saw a steep drop in demand from the previous week, sliding to 49.6 from an average of 73.6. Its third and final season was released on June 27.

The streamer’s Stranger Things landed in the No. 3 digital spot and No. 9 overall with a demand average of 31.8.

Netflix’s The Sandman made its debut on the digital demand chart at No. 5 with a demand average of 27.6. The first six episodes of its second and final season debuted on July 3. Its next five episodes release on July 24 followed by the series finale on July 31.

Parrot Analytics calculates its Top 10 lists using Demand Expressions, which are shown by using a metric that demonstrates how much more in-demand the top series are than the average TV show (linear, pay TV, SVOD and AVOD) in Canada. For example, a difference of 1x represents the market average and 10x means a series is 10 times more in demand than the average TV show in this market. Demand is defined as the total audience demand being expressed for a title within a market. Audience demand reflects the desire, engagement and viewership, weighted by importance; thus, a stream or download is a higher expression of demand than a “like” or comment.
