CRC appoints Lori Rosenberg as new CEO

Rosenberg succeeds Carol Cooper as head of the Canadian Retransmission Collective, with the outgoing CEO remaining in an advisory capacity for a transitional period.

The board of the Toronto-based Canadian Retransmission Collective (CRC) has appointed veteran media executive Lori Rosenberg as its new president and CEO.

Rosenberg (pictured) succeeds outgoing CEO Carol Cooper, who was first appointed to the role in 1992. Cooper will remain in an advisory capacity during a transitional period, according to a news release.

Rosenberg’s previous roles include vice chair and treasurer for the Bell Fund from 2008 to 2016, as well as VP, contracts for the Canadian Communication Systems Alliance from 2017 to 2024. She has served on the boards of Friends of Canadian Media and Cable & Telecommunications Association for Marketing Canada since 2018 and 2024, respectively.

“We’re delighted to have Lori leading us into a new era, particularly during this period of rapid industry change,” said Stephen Ellis, CRC co-founder and board chair, in a statement. “We congratulate Carol after an outstanding career defining the CRC, and are grateful for her commitment to a smooth transition.”

The CRC is a non-profit organization that collects its share of Canadian territory royalties from cable and satellite retransmitters, based on an annual tariff set by the Canadian copyright board, and distributes eligible royalties to domestic and worldwide affiliates. It was founded by the Canadian Media Producers Association in 1989.

According to the release, the CRC has distributed more than $330 million since its inception to affiliates such as independent Canadian producers, program suppliers to PBS, English-language educational networks in Canada, as well as foreign producers and broadcasters.
