The Quebecor Fund has provided $719,000 across two projects under its Film Production Assistance Program and two companies under its Export Assistance Program (EXAP).
Two films will receive a total of $419,000 in production support, including writer-director Luc Picard’s Violences (Christal Films Productions), distributed by Les Films Opale. The film takes place over a single day, depicting a double murder in a Montreal restaurant and a Paris film crew shooting a double murder scene.
The other is Sortie de zone (KO24), directed by Louis Morissette and Rachel Graton and distributed by Les Films Opale and KO Distribution. The feature follows a mother who is groomed to take over the family business until she discovers women’s hockey.
The EXAP program supports the development and marketing of audiovisual content adapted for non-Québec and international markets. Through the program, Quebecor and the Canada Media Fund (CMF) are each distributing $300,000 — totalling $600,000 in support — to Attraction Distribution Internationale and Outremont, Que.-based CarpeDiem Film & TV.
Since its inception in 2010, the film assistance program has funded 117 projects with more than $19.8 million. EXAP, created in March 2014 has invested more than $18.9 million into different companies.
