Warner Bros. Canadian licensing head Mickie Steinmann to retire

Steinmann, managing director and SVP for Warner Bros. Discovery Content Licensing in Canada, announced he will retire in October this year.

Mickie Steinmann, managing director and SVP for Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) Content Licensing in Canada, is set to retire in October after 25 years with the company.

Based in Toronto, Steinmann (pictured) is responsible for overseeing sales of Warner Bros. series, features and MOWs for free and pay TV, cable and SVOD platforms in Canada.

Prior to joining WBD, Steinmann served as VP, sales for Columbia TriStar International Television, where he handled Scandinavia, Benelux, Finland, Israel and pan-regional Middle Eastern satellite services. He maintained oversight over those regions when he joined WBD in 2000 as VP of sales. He was eventually promoted to VP and general manager, Canadian operations in 2006, and assumed his current SVP role in 2016.

In 2009, he led the launch of a WBTV AVOD service with Rogers Sports and Media. In the summer of 2012, he aided in the Cartoon Network Canada linear channel launch in partnership with Teletoon. He also served as an executive producer for Citytv and then the W Network’s The Bachelor Canada, which ran for three seasons from 2012 to 2017.

Following his retirement, the Canada content licensing team will continue to report to David Graber, EVP content licensing, based in Burbank, Calif., according to a release on Wednesday (June 18). A WBD spokesperson declined to comment on plans for Steinmann’s potential replacement.

Steinmann began his career as an intern at All American Television before joining HRP as a television market analyst. He has also served in international sales roles for Gaumont in Paris and Fox Lorber International, as well as a director of international sales for Alfred Haber.

“Mickie is a tremendously talented and strategic executive who has successfully and skillfully managed a constantly changing media landscape, driving consistent growth in the Canadian marketplace,” said Graber in a statement. “While we are sad for him to leave and will miss his energy, collaboration and expertise, we wish him all the best in his retirement.”
