CosmoGO to distribute sports streamer Fanatiz in Canada

EXCLUSIVE: CosmoBlue’s Tanuka Roy and Loni Farhi discuss how the distribution deal aligns with the company’s broader plans in Canada.

CosmoGO has partnered with international sports streaming service Fanatiz for exclusive Canadian distribution.

Fanatiz content will be available to Canadians via pay-per-view (PPV) or through ad-supported and subscription-based VOD when it launches later this summer. The streamer is part of the Hispanic media company Fz Sports.

CosmoBlue Canada’s general manager Tanuka Roy (pictured right) told Playback Daily that some of the Fanatiz content available at launch includes Argentinian, Turkish and French soccer as well as basketball, motorsports, padel, cycling and more.

After purchasing Cineplex’s eponymous online store in January, Geneva-headquartered CosmoBlue Media announced plans to rebrand the store to CosmoGO later this year.

Roy says there are plans for the company to work with Canadian producers and filmmakers to bring homegrown stories to CosmoGO, although the focus is on the current slate of content ahead of its launch later this year. They also intend on investing in localizations to ensure content is available in multiple languages, and bring in content across South America, Africa, Europe and Asia.

CosmoBlue has announced a number of deals for CosmoGO to date – including exclusive Canadian distribution for music streaming platform Oh! Jazz, and content deals with Disney, Warner Bros Discovery, Paramount, Sony Pictures Entertainment, NBC Universal, Lionsgate, Amazon MGM, Elevation Pictures and more – but this latest with Fanatiz is its first foray into sports.

CosmoBlue Media president and founder Loni Farhi (pictured left), says the Fanatiz partnership marks a “significant milestone” for the company’s plans in Canada, using CosmoGO as an “all-in-one destination” combining different streaming models.

He says CosmoGO is experimenting with revenue-share models, branded content hubs and flexible monetization, including inviting partners to collaborate on different payment strategies.

“CosmoGO is building a rich, diverse entertainment ecosystem which already includes a robust slate of theatrical releases from Hollywood blockbusters to indie gems, and the best in global jazz and now international sports,” says Farhi.
