The Reelworld Screen Institute has unveiled a new initiative aimed at advancing the careers of four mid-level professionals from underrepresented communities in the Canadian screen industry.
The Access Reelworld Wage Subsidy Program will offer these professionals mentorship, on-the-job training and six-month placements at four established production companies, helping them gain experience and build connections in the industry.
According to a release, these companies must be members of the Canadian Media Producers Association, with a physical office in Canada, employ at least five full-time employees and have ongoing projects in production. Applications are open on Reelworld’s website until June 16, with the program running from August until February 2026.
The program is funded via the Canada Media Fund’s Changing Narratives Fund.
“There is a pressing need for long-term, paid and practical experience, as the current landscape often leads to inequitable representation in production roles,” said Tonya Williams, Reelworld executive director and founder (pictured), in a statement.
