Grainey Pictures has hired writer, director and producer Jake Horowitz (A Thousand Cuts; pictured) as an executive producer and partner for its scripted film and TV division in Canada.
Horowitz will head up Grainey’s Toronto office alongside fellow executive producer and partner Larissa Primeau. In addition, Horowitz will work with executive producers Joel H. and Robert Cohen, who were brought onto the company in May, as well as Grainey co-founders Colin K. Gray and Megan Raney Aarons.
The appointment formalizes a strategic partnership that began March 31 between Horowitz’ Sideways Dog Productions and Grainey, with the companies partnering on the Bell Fibe TV1 series Estate of Mind, created by Horowitz and Jeff Biederman (Overruled!, Life with Derek).
Estate of Mind features real-life people interacting with an actor at estate sales, who tries to convince them he can build a device to recreate cherished moments.
Horowitz directs the 4 x 15-minute series and showruns alongside Biederman. It is produced by Primeau and Gray with Joel and Robert serving as executive producers.
Grainey is presenting the series at the Banff World Media Festival to secure additional partners in the U.S.
“We’re over-the-moon that Jake is officially joining our Grainey ‘North’ creative team,” said Gray and Aarons in a joint statement. “His track record, passion and commitment to bold storytelling speaks for itself.”
