A ndrew De Angelis’ (Children Ruin Everything) script for his unproduced half-hour comedy, New Spanish, has been chosen for this year’s Hot Pilot Party table read at the 2025 Banff World Media Festival (BANFF).

New Spanish, chosen from more than 400 submissions, will be the focus of a table read on June 8 featuring Taye Diggs (All American), Jennifer Whalen (Small Achievable Goals), Cody Lightning (Hey Viktor!), Dani Kind (Workin’ Moms) and Praneet Akilla (Nancy Drew).

In January, BANFF partnered with the live table read event’s Toronto-based creators Nadine Bhabha of Nineteen90 Productions, Julian De Zotti of Anthology Productions and Hannah Antaki of Antaki Casting to host it at the festival. The inaugural Hot Pilot Party took place in Toronto on September 4, 2024 adjacent to the Toronto International Film Festival.

Four additional scripts and their writers will be showcased at BANFF: Spin by Allana Reoch, Hostel California by Rob Michaels, Crushing by Michael Ayres and Over Asking by Larissa Primeau.
