Italian international film sales outfit The Open Reel has acquired international rights to Chinese-Canadian writer, director and producer Quentin Lee’s upcoming The Way You Dance.
The independently-financed film is produced by Cindy Au Yeung and Lee via Margin Films, which they co-own. Margin executive producer Jennifer Price will handle North American sales alongside the director.
The film follows a successful choreographer returning home to B.C. to care for his estranged father with terminal cancer, who also ends up mentoring a diverse dance class.
Canadian-American actor Tzi Ma (pictured left) has signed on as a producer and star, alongside Vancouver-based actor Kyle Toy (pictured right) who is set as the protagonist.
Currently, the plan is for production to begin filming in Langley, B.C. in September, although that may change to Richmond, Lee told Playback Daily, noting he hopes to enter the film into festivals by May 2026.
