Deals: Odin’s Eye, Sphere Abacus, Spin Master, Echo Media, Cineflix Rights

Odin’s Eye Animation has acquired international sales rights to Hungary/Canada/Germany coproduction Fairyheart, Sphere Abacus has sold true-crime series Murder by Medic in multiple territories, and more.

Sydney-based Odin’s Eye Animation has acquired international sales rights to Fairyheart (pictured), Anita Doron’s Hungary/Canada/Germany coproduction.

The animated feature, from Hungary’s Mythberg Films, Toronto’s Storyteller Pictures, North Bay, Ont.-based Lakeside Animation and Germany’s Traumhaus Studios, is based on the story Tündér Lala by Hungarian author Magda Szabó.

The film is being presented at the Cannes market, and is also selected as an official work in progress at this year’s Annecy International Animation Film Festival.

In December 2024, the film received €500,000 (C$739,561) in funding from Eurimages.

Sphere Abacus

Sphere Abacus has sold the true-crime series Murder by Medic (50 x 60 minutes, FirstlookTV) to multiple territories.

The series was acquired by Hulu and Shout! Studios in the U.S., as well as Sky and Patalin for Austria, Germany and Switzerland. It was acquired by Blue Ant Media’s specialty channel T+E for Canada.

The series follows the stories of medics who have murdered their patients.

Spin Master 

Nickelodeon has ordered five original hour-long PAW Patrol specials from Spin Master to roll out this year and into 2026 Each animated one-off will focus on a different character, and a few are seasonal specials.

The companies have only revealed the titles and details for two so far. Launching this fall, Valiente: A Tracker Story follows along as one of the pups heads into the jungle to stop a new villain. And then next up in Q4 is holiday special A PAW Patrol Christmas, in which the team heads to the North Pole to save Christmas after Santa gets a cold and can’t deliver presents.

These new commissions build on a PAW Patrol-heavy slate at Nickelodeon that already includes fire rescue-themed episodes rolling out June 2, and a 30-minute special called Skye’s Road Trip Rescue that will premiere on July 11. Plus, the brand’s third feature film PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie from Nickelodeon Movies and Spin Master is scheduled for a July 31, 2026 theatrical release.

Echo Media

St. Bruno, Que.-based Twinkle Teal Entertainment has partnered with Montreal-based Echo Media to coproduce an animated series for its flagship IP Nebulous Stars. This fantasy lifestyle brand debuted in 2017 and spans 17 novels, a magazine and a range of arts and crafts products for six- to 12-year-old girls. The series in development will focus on several young girls who team up with mythical creatures to solve problems in the Nebulous World.

Cineflix Rights

Cineflix Rights has a number of international deals for Canadian series from Toronto’s Cream Productions and Shark Teeth Films.

Shark Teeth’s Crave series Building Bad (10 x 60 minutes) has been acquired by Viasat for its Nordic and Central and Eastern Europe platforms, and by Warner Bros. Discovery for its Benelux platforms. The series follows enterprising criminals who walk the dark side of scientific invention.

An Optimist’s Guide to the Planet (6 x 60 minutes), a Canada/U.K. coproduction between Cream and the U.K.’s Wildfire Television in association with Bloomberg, Ill Kppers Aps and Bell Media, has been acquired by Denmark’s DR, Finland’s YLE and SBS Australia for its AVOD platform SBS On Demand.

The climate change-focused series is hosted by Game of Thrones‘ Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.
