Prestige International Pictures, based in L.A., has acquired international rights to writer, director and star Kaniehtiio Horn’s Seeds (Carpe Dee Yum Productions; pictured).
The deal was negotiated by Prestige president Carlos Rincon and Leonard Farlinger, who produced the film alongside Jennifer Jonas. It has been introduced to buyers at this week’s Cannes Marché du Film.
The revenge thriller, one of the Toronto International Film Festival’s 2024 Canada’s Top Ten, follows a Mohawk woman who is hired as a social media influencer but is forced to go to war to preserve her people’s heritage from corporate interests. Dallas Goldtooth, Patrick Garrow, Meegwun Fairbrother, Dylan Cook and Graham Greene also star.
LevelFILM released Seeds in Canadian theatres on October 24, 2024.
JFE Distribution
Just for Entertainment (JFE) Distribution has acquired season four of the sketch comedy series Abroad for international distribution ahead of its May 18 premiere.
The OMNI Television series is co-created by starring Filipina-Canadian comedian Isabel Kanaan and Wayne Testori and is loosely based on Kanaan’s experience immigrating to Canada as a teenager and recently becoming a mother. It is produced by Toronto-based Longhope Media, in association with OMNI Television.
Justin Santiago, Nicco Lorenzo Garcia, Joy Castro and Aldrin Bundoc join Kanaan as principal cast members. All four seasons are available to international audiences in both English and Tagalog through JFE Distribution.
Abroad‘s fourth season premieres in Canada on OMNI 2, OMNI BC & OMNI Alberta on May 18.
Gravitas Ventures
Gravitas Ventures has acquired U.S. rights to Ryan Mah and Danny Berish’s Knowledge Network original documentary Arthur Erickson: Beauty Between the Lines.
The film, from Vancouver-based companies Black Rhino Creative in association with All in Pictures and Leap Creative, will be released on digital and cable on-demand in the U.S. beginning May 20.
Arthur Erickson follows the life and work of the titular Vancouver-born architect. It was funded with the participation of the Canada Media Fund, Rogers Documentary Fund and provincial tax credits.
Boat Rocker
Amazon Kids+ will stream Boat Rocker’s CG-animated series Dino Ranch: Island Explorers in Canada, the U.S., the U.K., Japan and Germany in 2026.
CBC/Radio-Canada is the project’s Canadian broadcast partner and will air it on CBC, CBC Gem, CBC Kids YouTube, ICI TÉLÉ, ICI TOU.TV and Radio-Canada’s website in 2026.
Warner Bros. Discovery is broadcasting through its Cartoonito across Europe, Middle East, and Africa that same year. The original Dino Ranch series airs globally in more than 170 countries and 15 languages.
Dino Ranch: Island Explorers is created by Matt Fernandes and produced by Industrial Brothers and Boat Rocker. Boat Rocker manages global franchise development while animation services for spin-off series are provided by Jam Filled Entertainment.
VVS Films
Montreal’s VVS FIlms has acquired the Canadian rights to Matt Sukkar’s crime thriller The Deputy as production begins in Mississippi.
VVS’ acquisition was announced as part of a larger slate of the film’s sales from L.A.’s Highland Film Group, which is co-financing and handling worldwide rights. The Deputy is produced by Sukkar, Andrew Stevens Entertainment and Hicham Benkirane for his HBK F.C. banner, which developed and packaged the project with Sukkar.
