Hot Sheet: Andor tops digital demand after season two premiere

HBO’s The Last of Us led Canadian demand for overall TV shows.

Disney+’s Andor led Canadian demand on the digital originals chart following the release of its season two in late April.

The Star Wars series, whose season two premiered on April 22, is a prequel to 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and follows the early developments of a rebellion. It had a demand average of 46.1 during the week of April 20 to 27, according to Parrot Analytics.

Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale, available in Canada on Crave, Prime Video and illico+, landed in the digital originals chart’s No. 2 spot with a demand average of 38.2. The final season of the series, based on Canadian author Margaret Atwood’s 1985 novel of the same name, released on April 8.

Netflix’s science fiction anthology Black Mirror rounds out the top three with a demand average of 35.2. The series’ season seven, which has each episode explore a different dystopian future shaped by technology, released on April 10.

Netflix’s You landed at No. 8 on the digital originals chart following the release of its fifth and final season on April 24. The psychological thriller had a demand average of 27.9 and accompanies its charming but violent protagonist, who will use any means necessary to insert himself into the lives of those he is obsessed with.

At No.9 is Dropout’s ever-changing competition series Game Changer with a demand average of 27.4. The Dropout original series, which released its season seven on April 7, has three comedian competitors vie for victory in a game that changes its rules each episode.

HBO’s The Last of Us, available in Canada on Crave, led on the overall TV shows chart in late April with a demand average of 76.1. Season two of the post-apocalyptic drama, which released on April 13, is based on the video game The Last of Us: Part II and was filmed in Alberta and B.C..

For example, a difference of 1x represents the market average and 10x means a series is 10 times more in demand than the average TV show in this market. Demand is defined as the total audience demand being expressed for a title within a market. Audience demand reflects the desire, engagement and viewership, weighted by importance; thus, a stream or download is a higher expression of demand than a “like” or comment.
