APTN unveils spring lineup

Series making their premiere on APTN include Red River Gold and Northwoods Survival while returning programs include Pow Wow Chow.

APTN has announced its spring programming lineup with a raft of new and returning series across the broadcaster’s platforms.

Among the new series for the spring season is Red River Gold (3 Story Pictures), which follows a group of treasure hunters looking for lost British gold that was intended to fund military force against Louis Riel’s Red River Resistance. Red River Gold is premiering on APTN lumi on April 28 and on APTN on May 5. The series also wrapped production on its second season near the end of last year.

Another new series this spring is @Home (Pow Wow Productions). Hosted by Haida artist and filmmaker Tamara Bell, the series follows Bell as she uses interior design to help Indigenous people connect with their cultural and artistic traditions. @Home premieres on APTN and APTN lumi on May 5.

Making its premiere on APTN and APTN lumi on May 25 is Blue Ant Studios’ Northwoods Survival (pictured). The series follows a group of young Canadians as they attempt to build a life in the Canadian wilderness.

APTN also has a children’s Inuktitut-language series in Ukaliq and Kalla making its premiere on the broadcaster. The series combines 2D animation with live action and follows an unlikely friendship between an Arctic hare and a lemming. It premieres on APTN Languages and APTN lumi on May 11.

For the returning series, Chuck and the First Peoples’ Kitchen (Andicha Média) comes back for season five on APTN and APTN lumi on May 5 and 9 for English and French, respectively. It follows chef Chuck Hughes as he visits communities to cook traditional Indigenous recipes.

Pow Wow Chow (Pow Wow Chow, InterINDigitial Entertainment) is another food-focused series making its return. Its second season will make its APTN lumi Cree and English premieres on April 30 and May 2, respectively, its Cree premiere on APTN Languages on May 7 and its English premiere on APTN May 9. Pow Wow Chow accompanies two Indigenous chefs and their crews as they navigate being travelling food vendors along the powwow trail.

Sagacious Media’s Red Earth Uncovered‘s fifth season will make its Cree APTN lumi premiere on May 4 and APTN Languages premiere on May 11. The series explores myths and mysteries such as the Sasquatch, UFO sightings, sea creatures and werewolves.

Also returning in the spring is the Indigenous musician documentary series Amplify (Wolfwalker Productions). The series’ third season premieres on APTN lumi on May 6 and APTN on May 13.

The second season of CBC’s sketch comedy series TallBoyz (Accent Entertainment) will make its APTN premiere on May 20 and Michif Country (Manito Media), which explores Michif language, culture and landscape around Manitoba’s St. Laurent, premieres on APTN lumi on May 1 and on APTN May 8.

Two children’s productions round out the returning series. The first is the second season of Chums (Chums Media), making its APTN English-language premiere on May 10, its Cree and Anishinaabemowin-language premiere on APTN Languages the same day and its APTN lumi premiere in all three languages on May 3. Chums follows a young girl and a group of animals as they embark on adventures.

Second is the APTN lumi original Indigenous Art Adventures, returning for its second season. The series, hosted by Lance Cardinal, demonstrates how to create Indigenous-inspired crafts. It makes its APTN and APTN lumi premiere on May 10.
