Sinking Ship sells its latest dino spinoff abroad, CBC Gem to premiere Telus original Not Your Butter Chicken, and more

ABC Kids in Australia and Hop! in Israel have acquired Toronto-based Sinking Ship Entertainment’s Dino Dex series for broadcast.

The 13 x 22-minute spinoff of Sinking Ship’s Dino Dana debuted on UK streamer ITVX Kids last fall. The series was greenlit by Prime Video, Amazon Kids+ and TVO Kids in July 2023.

Created by Sinking Ship partner J.J. Johnson, the hybrid live-action series follows Dex, a nine-year-old paleontologist in training who studies dinosaurs in the real world.

CBC Gem

CBC will mark Asian Heritage Month with a new documentary series about South Asian culture in Canada, Not Your Butter Chicken, which premieres on CBC Gem on May 1.

The four-part docuseries from Vancouver-headquartered prodco Jugaad Sisters delves into the recipes, untold stories and life lessons of South Asians in Canada through the eyes of celebrated Vancouver food and wine expert Shiva Reddy.

The Telus original series first premiered on Telus Optik Channel 8 in May 2024.

The series follows Reddy as she travels across British Columbia and Alberta, exploring her culture with other South Asians to fill in the gaps that come with being a second-generation Canadian. A former competitive hockey player, Reddy was one of the first South Asian women to make it in the world of wine and fine dining in Canada. Her journey to learn more about her Indian heritage through food and culture comes as she grapples with her mother’s battle with dementia.

Not Your Butter Chicken is directed by Priyanka Desai, and produced by Desai and Joanna Wong.
