Crave orders Project Runway Canada return

The fashion competition series enters production at Toronto Metropolitan University this summer.

Crave has ordered 10 episodes for Project Runway Canada, a Canadian adaptation of the U.S. fashion competition series.

Project Runway Canada is produced by Bell Media Studios in collaboration with Fashion at Toronto Metropolitan University’s The Creative School. The Crave original enters production at the university this summer and will debut on the Bell Media platform later this year. Nicholas Vasil is the series producer.

The Project Runway format sees fashion designers compete in weekly challenges until one designer is named the victor.

The Canadian adaptation of the format initially aired on Slice in 2007, winning a Gemini Award for Best Reality Program or Series. The second season aired in 2009 on Global, but the series did not return for a third season. Insight Productions produced the first two seasons. Both then and now the format was licensed from the U.K.’s Fremantle.

Crave’s Project Runway Canada will be hosted by Canadian model Coco Rocha, who will judge alongside former FashionTelevision host and fashion reporter Jeanne Beker. Additional casting will be announced at a later date.

Casting on the series for competing designers is currently underway.

Project Runway has had a profound effect on the fashion industry and is known globally for launching careers,” said Michela Di Mondo, EVP, international distribution, Fremantle Canada. “We can’t wait to see Project Runway Canada open doors for some of the country’s most inspiring fashion designers in this internationally-renowned fashion series”.
