CosmoBlue launches in Canada

The Geneva-based company bought Cineplex’s namesake online store earlier this year.

Geneva-headquartered CosmoBlue Media has officially launched in Canada today. The news follows the completion of the company’s acquisition of Cineplex’s online store, which will be rebranded as CosmoGo later this year, according to the April 9 release.

The newly-branded CosmoGo is being positioned as a multi-platform service, integrating transaction VOD, PPV and AVOD.

CosmoBlue Media Canada plans to expand its theatrical offerings to exhibitors across the country via feature films, live concerts, sports showcases and more available in theatres and on CosmoGO. According to a release, CosmoBlue Media Canada will be launching theatrical offerings and live events.

In November 2024, former Super Channel executive Tanuka Roy joined CosmoBlue Media as the general manager of its Canadian office in Toronto. Earlier in September, the company launched theatrical distribution in the country.

According to a CosmoBlue Media spokesperson, the company is actively expanding its Canadian footprint with plans for growth from the team and additional resources drawn from the company globally.

“We see so much opportunity in the Canadian market,” CosmoBlue Media co-founder and group president Loni Farhi (pictured) told Playback Daily. “Canada has a vibrant, diverse and multicultural audience, and with the upcoming launch of CosmoGO, we’re excited to build on our recent acquisition of the Cineplex Store by creating a dynamic, multi-platform destination for global film, music, sports entertainment and more, both in theatres and at home.”
