Montreal-based prodco Item 7 (Tous toqués!) has boarded Toronto’s Candour Pictures’ feature One Day Closer as a coproduction partner.
The film, to be directed by Academy Award-nominated Yan England, is an adaptation of Lorinda Stewart’s 2017 memoir, One Day Closer: A Mother’s Quest to Bring Her Kidnapped Daughter Home, chronicling Stewart’s 460-day journey to free her daughter from captivity in Somalia.
Item 7 president Pierre Even (pictured right) has joined the project as a producer, alongside another new addition, Montreal-based Skywolf Media’s Lisa Wolofsky. They join Candour co-founders Rebecca Lamarche (pictured left) and Myles Milne. Stewart is also onboard as executive producer. The film is written by Jennifer Snow.
Production is scheduled to begin this year, with principal photography taking place in Sudbury, Ont.; a dedicated second unit in Mauritius; and post-production to be completed in Montreal.
Lamarche told Playback Daily specific shooting dates will be determined reflecting the availability of the actor in the lead role of Lorinda, who has yet to be announced. The current plan is for 20 days of shooting in Sudbury in late September, followed by a week in Mauritius around the end of October or beginning of November.
Convergent Media’s Dan Reardon is providing financing. Entertainment lawyer Dimiter D. Nikolov is handling the production’s business and legal affairs, according to Lamarche.
