Ahead of this year’s edition, the Banff World Media Festival has named Korea as its first-ever Country of Honour, highlighting its global contributions to the entertainment industry.
In partnership with the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA), a delegation of Korea’s producers, industry leaders and talent will attend the festival to forge international partnerships. The festival will feature showcases, networking opportunities and programming spotlighting Korea’s storytelling across television, digital media and more. There will also be a tribute to Korean content at the Rockie Awards on June 9.
“We are thrilled to recognize Korea as our inaugural Country of Honour,” said Jenn Kuzmyk, BANFF executive director and Playback publisher in a statement. “Korea has emerged as a powerhouse in global entertainment, captivating audiences worldwide with its innovative storytelling and world-class productions. We look forward to welcoming Korean creators to BANFF and fostering new opportunities for international collaboration.”
“Korea’s presence at BANFF underscores the strength and appeal of K-Content on a global scale,” said Yoo-Hyun-seok, KOCCA acting president. “We are excited to showcase the depth and diversity of our creative industry while building meaningful partnerships that will shape the future of entertainment.”
Kuzmyk also noted that Esther Song, founder and CEO of Song Group and Banff Television Festival Foundation board member Jeniffer Kim were “instrumental” in bringing the initiative together.
Yesterday (March 26), BANFF announced the 75-person cohort for this year’s Diversity of Voices initiative.
