Blue Ant acquires distribution rights for nine Red Bull titles

The sports and adventure documentary acquisitions include one series and eight films from the Salzburg-based studio.

Toronto-based Blue Ant Studios has picked up the exclusive worldwide distribution rights to several films and one series from Salzburg-headquartered Red Bull Studios.

The deal, which was announced today (Feb. 24) at London Screenings, was brokered by Lilla Hurst, Blue Ant’s global head of acquisitions and strategy.

The sole series included in the acquisition is the 8 x 60-minute Compton Magic, from London and L.A.-based prodco Lightbox.

There are three 60-minute films named as part of the package, including Anna Gasser: The Spark Within (Red Bull Media House), which follows the life of the snowboarder named in the title. The Moment: How Sports Changed the World (1895 Films) recounts Nelson Mandela uniting South Africa behind the Springbok rugby team. The Real Mo Farah (Atomized Studios) follows the titular track athlete’s journey to discover his origins.

The 90-minute La Liste: Everything or Nothing (Sherpas Cinema) depicts the exploits of Jérémie Heitz, known as the fastest free skier in the world.

The 120-minute documentary feature The Dawn Wall (Sender Films, pictured) tells the story of two climbers’ attempt to scale a 3,000-foot (900 metres) rock face in Yosemite National Park.

Born to Fly (120 minutes, Robi Creative, BCII Production and Backflip Media) follows world record-holding pole vaulter Armand Duplantis; and The Longest Wave (120 minutes, Radical Media) is about 24-time world champion windsurfer Robby Naish.

The 120-minute Riders on the Storm (Blackbeard) showcases Khaiber Akbarzada, who plays Afghanistan’s national sport buzkashi, a sport where horsemen battle for control of a headless goat.

“Red Bull Studios is a leader in producing innovative, high-quality documentaries that inspire, and we’re excited to build on this partnership as we continue to grow our network of strategic acquisitions,” said Hurst in a statement.
