Crave orders Toronto Raptors doc from Uninterrupted Canada

We The North: From Prehistoric to Historic will be paired with mid-length doc Inbound in a theatrical run from Feb. 21 to 24.

Crave has announced a pair of basketball-focused docs to mark the Toronto Raptors’ 30th anniversary.

The 75-minute Crave original feature We The North: From Prehistoric to Historic looks at the basketball franchise’s history, culminating in the 2019 NBA Championship, while 49-minute title Inbound examines the connection between the changes in Canada’s immigration policy over the last 50 years and the influx of Canadian basketball talent.

We The North is directed by Sami Khan (Starting 5, pictured left) and produced by Uninterrupted Canada, the northern offshoot of LeBron James and Maverick Carter’s company, and Vinay Virmani’s (pictured right) First Take Entertainment in partnership with Crave and TSN. Virmani, Connor Ritchie and Uninterrupted Canada’s Stephanie Azam are executive producers.

The film was funded by Ontario Creates and Bell Media, Azam told Playback Daily.

Inbound is directed by Davin Black and produced by Toronto-based Victory Media Group’s Hannah Lerner. Mark Starkey, Mario Soriano, Ben Che are executive producers, according to a Bell Media spokesperson.

We The North and Inbound are slated for a double feature release through Cineplex between Feb. 21 to 24. They will screen in 43 Cineplex theatres in Ontario, B.C., Quebec, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador.

Both films will then be available in Canada on Crave and TSN and globally on the NBA app, excluding Belarus, China, Japan and Russia.
