American documentary-focused SVOD platform Curiosity Stream has picked up the rights to a Bitcoin doc produced for CBC.
Toronto-based Paul Kemp Productions’ feature documentary Searching for Satoshi: The Mysterious Disappearance of the Bitcoin Creator examines the disappearance of Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonym for the mysterious inventor of Bitcoin.
The documentary has also been picked up by free global AVOD service Documentary+. The deals were announced as part of a raft of AVOD and SVOD deals from distributor All3Media International.
Kemp’s (pictured) documentary was originally commissioned by CBC for its documentary strand The Passionate Eye. All3Media acquired the international distribution rights in June 2023.
BBC Studios’ SVOD service BBC Select has acquired the U.S. and Canadian rights to a number of factual series, including Raw Production’s 3 x 60-minute The Body Next Door. The streamer also picked up Glasgow-based Two Rivers Media titles Keeping It Up (1 x 90 minutes) and Monster: The Mystery of Loch Ness (3 x 60 minutes).
Other U.K.-produced series set to make a Canadian debut via BBC Select are Secrets of Our Universe with Tim Peake (3 x 60 minutes; Coming Up Roses), Britain’s Most Beautiful Road (4 x 60 minutes; PurpleTV), Meet the Roman Emperor with Mary Beard (1 x 60 minutes; LionTV) and Westminster Abbey: Behind Closed Doors (6 x 60 minutes; Spun Gold).
