Quebecor Content sells crime drama to Global Series Network

Détective Surprenant: La fille aux yeux de pierre has been acquired for VOD service Walter Presents.

Quebecor Content has licensed the first season of its crime drama Détective Surprenant: La fille aux yeux de pierre (The girl with stone eyes) to London-based Global Series Network for its foreign-language programming VOD service Walter Presents.

The 6 x 45-minute series is produced by V10 Media and distributed globally by Montreal-headquartered companies TVA Distribution and Incendo. Détective Surprenant follows a detective, played by Patrick Hivon (Le Cyclone de Noël) as he investigates the murder of a teenage girl on the Quebec archipelago Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine while facing hostility from a Quebec City investigator.

The series also stars Catherine Brunet, Jean-François Pichette, Milya Corbeil-Gauvreau, Mikhaïl Ahooja, Patrick Goyette, Marie-France Marcotte and Nicolas Fontaine.

The police thriller is set to run on Walter Presents in its original French with English subtitles starting in spring in the U.K., Ireland and the U.S.

The Club Illico (now illico+) original was directed by Yannick Savard, produced by Caroline Gaudette and written by Marie-Ève Bourassa and Maureen Martineau. The series is based on the detective novels from Quebec author Jean Lemieux and had its premiere on Club Illico on Dec. 7, 2023. The series premiered internationally at Series Mania in 2024.
