A nimation industry veterans Lynn Chadwick (pictured right) and Steve Cooke (pictured left) have launched a new animation studio, Halifax-based That Animation Company.
The studio, which officially launched on Jan. 13, will focus on a variety of sectors across 2D and 3D animation pipelines, including television, streaming, education, sports and marketing. Chadwick tells Playback Daily the pair wanted to explore areas outside of kids and family animation, and that they are already making inroads into education and marketing.
Co-founders and producers Chadwick and Cooke are now actively seeking production partners. To “get some money in and get some momentum going,” Chadwick says, the studio will initially focus on service animation. The long-term goal is to coproduce with other entities, which can include the company’s own IP down the line.
“I think it’s going to be a little bit more of the case of people with their own IP needing assistance, but also needing to open that coproduction envelope, if you will,” she says.
Chadwick was hired by Dartmouth, N.S.-based Huminah Huminah in February 2021 as its first VP of content and sales. Previously, she served as VP of sales and distribution for Sinking Ship Entertainment and VP of network content acquisition and pay TV for Corus Entertainment in Toronto.
At Huminah Huminah, Cooke was VP of production and animation. Prior to that, he served as the studio general manager for Halifax’s Island of Misfits Media.
The company is planning to hire animators, storyboard artists and the required production crew as its pipeline grows.
