The country’s top four broadcasters have revealed the most-viewed Canadian series for linear television in 2024.
The Amazing Race Canada (Insight Productions) on CTV once again took the top spot with its tenth season, coming in with an average audience of 1.34 million. These figures are based on Numeris data disclosed to Playback Daily by Bell Media, CBC, Corus Entertainment and Rogers Sports & Media.
The travel competition series saw a reduced viewership from 2023, where it averaged 1.72 million viewers, or 2022 where the average was 1.6 million.
Citytv was home to the highest-rated Canadian drama with Law and Order Toronto: Criminal Intent (Lark Productions, Cameron Pictures), at an average of more than 1.1 million viewers for its debut season. Playback‘s 2024 Showrunner of the Year Tassie Cameron is behind the procedural series, which scored a two-season renewal last June. CBC’s top-rated scripted series was once again Murdoch Mysteries (Shaftesbury) with an average of 734,000 viewers, down slightly from 812,000 last year.
Global’s top Canadian series was the new Fox original Murder in a Small Town (Sepia Films) with an average audience of 637,000. Global original Big Brother Canada (Insight Productions) was second at an average of 410,300 viewers, a notable drop from 707,400 in 2023. Corus cancelled the series in June 2024.
