Toronto-based Number’d Company Pictures’ I Will Bury You has arisen as the most awarded web series in the 2024 Web Series World Cup (WSWC).
The WSWC is a non-profit initiative that supports web series. The organization collects the results from top web series festivals around the globe, eventually crowning the most awarded one.
I Will Bury You, currently on its second season, is written and directed by Ravi Steve and stars Sergio Di Zio (Flashpoint; pictured right), Colin Glazer (Suits; pictured left), Clare Coulter (The Apprentice) and Saul Rubinek (Hunters). Steve, Di Zio and Glazer serve as producers.
The dark comedy follows Di Zio and Glazer as two brothers that encounter difficulty in acting out their mother’s last wish to scatter her ashes in the places that she loved.
The series has been lauded at web series festivals around the globe throughout last year, including the Cusco Web Fest, where it won Best Directing for an International Series, and the Miami Web Fest’s Best in Fest award. Other accolades include nominations for Best Comedy at T.O. WebFest, Best Overall Series at LA Web Fest and Outstanding Comedy at the New Jersey Web Festival. Steve also received a Writers Guild of Canada Screenwriter Award in 2024 for the season two episode “Depression” in the shorts category.
I Will Bury You, through a partnership with Sunbelt Rentals Film & TV (formerly William F. White International), was shot at Sunbelt’s backlot in Pickering, Ont. The series received support from the Canada Media Fund and Ontario Creates.
Two other Canadian web series reached the WSWC’s top three including Trio Orange’s The Fades of Papineau, which came in second place, and Inaru Films’ Les météorites, which tied for third with Australia’s Fanny Scat Investigates.
TV5Unis’ La Terre Appelle Mathilde made it on the list tied at No. 5 while Josiane Blanc‘s Ainsi va manu landed at No. 6. Rounding out the top 10 is St Laurent TV’s Les Mal-Aimant at No. 8 and LoCo Motion Pictures’ I Hate People, People Hate Me at No. 10.
Canadian series had the largest presence on WSWC’s list with 17 out of 46 series.
This marks the second year in a row that a Canadian web series has been the most awarded web series after Chateau Laurier.
