Xavier Brassard-Bédard appointed as CEO of TFO

Brassard-Bédard succeeds Michelle Séguin, who has been CEO since February 2022.

News media executive Xavier Brassard-Bédard has been appointed as the new CEO of TFO, Ontario’s francophone public broadcaster, effective Jan. 6, 2025.

He succeeds Michelle Séguin, who has been in the role since February 2022 after being appointed interim CEO in May 2021. The search for her successor began in April, when she announced her pending retirement in February 2025 at the end of her mandate.

Brassard-Bédard has more than 15 years of experience in the media industry, having previously served as general manager for TVA Nouvelles and the 24-hour news channel LCN. He also spent eight years at Radio-Canada in Ottawa and Toronto, where he worked as a researcher, producer and news editor for Téléjournal Ontario.

“I am committed to strengthening TFO’s role in the years ahead, serving our youth and Ontario’s Francophone communities, as well as those living in minority situations across Canada,” said Brassard-Bédard in a statement.

“TFO is entering a new era marked by a rapidly evolving media industry. The new CEO will leverage his extensive media experience to guide TFO and its rapidly transforming audience to new heights,” added Jean Lépine, TFO’s board of directors chair.

In January, TFO appointed CBC/Radio-Canada veteran Sonia Boisvert as VP, content and production.
