Greenwich acquires U.S. rights to Bonjour Tristesse

Durga Chew-Bose's directorial debut will have a theatrical release in the U.S. and Canada next summer.

Los Angeles-based Greenwich Entertainment has acquired the U.S. rights to Durga Chew-Bose’s directorial debut Bonjour Tristesse.

The film will release theatrically in the U.S. next summer, with Elevation Pictures distributing in Canada. The film has been sold to a number of territories, including Spain, former Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Middle East and North Africa as well as airlines via Montreal’s Skeye Inflight Entertainment.

Greenwich’s Andy Bohn negotiated the acquisition with United Talent Agency Independent Film Group on behalf of the filmmakers.

Bonjour Tristesse is based on French author Françoise Sagan’s 1954 novel. It follows an 18-year-old on the French seaside with her father and his lover, who is threatened when her deceased mother’s old friend arrives. The film was previously adapted in 1958 by the Austrian-American director Otto Preminger.

The drama is produced by Babe Nation Film’s Katie Bird Nolan and Lindsay Tapscott; Elevation’s Christina Piovesan and Noah Segal; Paris-based Cinenovo’s Julie Viez; and Berlin-based Barry Films’ Benito Mueller and Wolfgang Mueller.

Executive producers include Sagan’s son Denis Westhoff, Suzanne Court and London and Paris-based Film Constellation founder Fabien Westerhoff.

Elevation’s Emily Kulasa, Jesse Weening and Omar Chalabi are also executive producers.

The film, which had its world premiere earlier this year at the Toronto International Film Festival, stars Chloë Sevigny, Claes Bang and Lily McInerny (pictured). Chew-Bose won the Emerging Talent Award at the festival’s Tribute Awards.

The original score for the film comes from Lesley Barber, who was recently recognized for creative excellence at the 37th annual Crystal Awards from the Women in Film and Television Toronto.
