Sphere Abacus has appointed Toby McCathie to the newly formed role of finance director.

Based in London, McCathie (pictured) will join the team on Dec. 3, and will report to Denis Rozon, Sphere Media’s EVP and CFO.

McCathie previously worked as head of finance at HiddenLight Productions, as well as various financial and consulting roles with companies such as Neo Studios, StoryFirst, Betty TV and Universal International Studios.

“Appointing Toby as our first finance director marks a pivotal stage in Sphere Abacus’ evolution,” said Jonathan Ford, Sphere Abacus’ managing director, in a statement, adding that McCathie’s “extensive commercial experience” will strengthen the company’s work in supporting and selling its programming slate.

The company was formerly known as Abacus Media Rights until it was acquired by Toronto and Montreal-based Sphere Media in September from its previous parent company, Toronto-headquartered Amcomri Entertainment.
