G. Patrick Condon wraps dark comedy in Newfoundland

White People Helping follows a white couple who try to manipulate an Indigenous gardener into giving up his cottage.

Principal photography has been completed on the comedy-horror White People Helping, written, directed and produced by G. Patrick Condon.

Filmed in Ocean Pond, Nfld. and produced by Condon’s (Incredible Violence) Newfoundland-based prodco The Hunting Party, the film tells the story of a wealthy white couple who resort to violence when unable to manipulate an Indigenous gardener into signing over his cottage. Allison Moira Kelly (Tales from the Floordrobe) is a co-producer.

The film is an allegory about the history of Newfoundland and Indigenous peoples, according to Condon in a statement.

White People Helping stars Stephen Oates (Incredible Violence) in his fourth collaboration with Condon, Lauren Vandenbrook (Being Erica) and Saskatchewan-based Métis artist Marcel Petit (Jean’s War).

The film was made with the support of the Canada Council of the Arts.
