Re: Uniting leads 2024 UBCP/ACTRA Award noms

The awards will be handed out on Nov. 23 at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver.

The feature Re: Uniting from director Laura Adkin leads the nominees for the 13th annual UBCP/ACTRA Awards.

The peer-adjudicated awards program from UBCP/ACTRA, the autonomous branch of performers’ union ACTRA in B.C., will honour members in eight categories on Nov. 23 at the Commodore Ballroom.

Re: Uniting (Flat/Head Films) is up for four nominations, including three in the Best Lead Performance, Motion Picture category: Michelle Harrison (pictured, left), David James Lewis and Bronwen Smith. Carmen Smith is nominated for Best Supporting Performance, Motion Picture. The film follows six best friends from college who meet again in their forties for their 25th anniversary reunion.

The other motion picture lead performance nominations are Matthew MacCaull for the Tubi original Lowlifes from Vancouver’s Front Street Pictures and Camille Sullivan for She Talks to Strangers from Toronto’s Carkner Films.

CBC’s Allegiance (Lark Productions) has two supporting performance nominations in the series category: Shae-Lynn Pearson for “The Legacy” and Stephen Lobo for “Homecoming Kings.”

Terry Miles’ Calamity Jane (Enlighten Content) has two of the other nominations in the motion picture supporting performance category for Priscilla Faia and Christian Sloan.

Other recognitions for Canadian projects include three Best Lead Performance, Series noms: Natasha Calis for CBC’s Skymed (Piazza Entertainment); Agam Darshi for CTV’s Sight Unseen (Blink49 Studios, Front Street Pictures, Sisters Troubetzkoy Productions); Jennifer Spence for Crave’s The Trades (Trailer Park Boys Inc., Kontent House); and Jewel Staite for Global’s Family Law (Lark Productions, SEVEN24 Films).

Sight Unseen is also nominated for Best Stunt Performance for the episode “Tess,” for stunt coordinators Brett and Douglas Armstrong and stunt performers Leif Havdale, Evelyn Gonda and Brennan Walstrom.

The Best Voice Performance nominees are Brian Drummond for Netlfix’s Sonic Prime, produced by WildBrain; Giles Panton for Lakeside Animation’s Red Iron Road; and Elishia Perosa for Rocket Saves The Day from Thunderbird Entertainment. The noms include two WildBrain-produced Strawberry Shortcake TV movies: Rhona Rees for Strawberry Shortcake’s Summer Vacation and Kelli Ogmundson for Strawberry Shortcake’s Spring Spectacular.

The Best Short Performance nominees are Diana Bang for Andrew Gillingham’s Cups; Nhi Do for Thomas Afolter’s The Sorrow; Matthew MacCaull for Master of the House from director Dylan Maranda; Emilee Nimetz for Katrina Reynolds’ A Day In The (After)Life Of Diane Staples; and Garfield Wilson for Jess McLeod’s DTF?

In addition to the eight performance awards, the John Juliani Award of Excellence will be awarded to John Cassini (Seven) for his contributions to the industry.
