Gangnam Project dances on for season two at CBC Kids

The 10 x 30-minute series recently wrapped production in Hamilton, Ont. and Seoul.

CBC Kids and the U.K.’s CBBC have renewed Toronto-based studios Pillango Productions and Aircraft Pictures’ Gangnam Project for a second season.

The 10 x 30-minute season, co-commissioned by CBC Kids and CBBC, recently wrapped production in Hamilton, Ont. and Seoul. The first season debuted on CBC Gem on Feb. 26.

Created by Sarah Haasz (Circuit Breakers), the series will continue to follow the young stars from the first season on their journey of becoming K-pop idols.

Gangnam Project is made with the financial participation of Shaw Rocket Fund and the Canada Media Fund. Pillango founder Haasz serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside head writer Jennica Harper (Jann) and Aircraft Pictures’ Anthony Leo (Holly Hobbie) and Andrew Rosen (Breadwinner); with Justin Wu (Kim’s Convenience), Gloria Kim (Queen of the Morning Calm) and Samantha Wan (Second Jen) directing.

Joining the cast for season two is Ryan Jacob Kong alongside returning cast members Julia Kim Caldwell, Taran Kim (Rock of Ages), Brianna Kim (So Help Me Todd), Joshua Lee (XO, Kitty), Angela Son, Kylie Haasz (The Next Step), Sean Baek (Reacher), Paul Seungbin Lee, Zeboria Peters (The Haunted Museum) and M.J. Kang (The Bequeathed).

Filipino-Canadian musician August Rigo, who has written songs for BTS, One Direction and Justin Bieber, will return for season two original soundtrack.

Distributor Federation Kids & Family is handling worldwide sales for the series. The company has already inked sales for season one with France Télévisions, ABC Australia, NRK (Norway), YLE (Finland) and TV3 Group (Baltics).
