The APTN lumi web series Tales from the Rez from Blackfoot Nation Films has been renewed for season two.
The 6 x 15-minute horror comedy anthology series from creator, writer and showrunner Trevor Solway (Kaatohkitopii: The Horse He Never Rode) adapts Blackfoot traditional tales and urban legends, featuring a grizzled elder played by Charles Duck Chief introducing each episode.
Production will take place in Alberta on the Siksika Nation and nearby locations, with casting for season two about to get underway.
Amee Lê and Jason Ryle (Amplify) have come on board as producers for season two, joining series producer Colin Van Loon. Financing has been provided by the Canada Media Fund, the Bell Fund, the Indigenous Screen Office, Calgary Arts Development and Canada Council for the Arts, with a licensing fee from APTN lumi.
The series first debuted on APTN lumi on Oct. 20, 2023. It won the Audience Choice Award at the 2023 Calgary International Film Festival.
The producers also announced that season one will have its linear broadcast premiere on Oct. 31 at midnight on APTN in time for Halloween.
Season one starred Eugene Brave Rock (Wonder Woman), Shane Ghostkeeper (Parallel Minds), Shayla Stonechild (Siren), Michelle Thrush (Prey), Joel Oulette (Trickster), Nathan Alexis (Trickster) and Cody Lightning (Echo, Four Sheets to the Wind).
“The second season will delve even deeper into our community’s stories, told through a lens of Blackfoot traditions, horror and humour, and we can’t wait to bring it to life,” said Solway in a statement.
